Valley of the Shadow: the story of the Rowan County War

Valley of the Shadow:

the story of the Rowan County War

Based on the book Days of Anger, Days of Tears by Juanita Blair and Fred Brown, Jr, the Rowan County Feud, or Tolliver-Martin War, was one of the bloodiest and least-known of the mountain vendettas.

The official span of "the Feud" is 1884-1887, and in the last two hours of fighting on June 22nd 1887, over 1500 shots were fired in downtown Morehead, but even after the official end of "the Feud" resentment continued and Cate Tolliver's death as late as 1921 can be attributed directly to that conflict.
